How long will it take to get dreadlocks?

I have short "nappy" hair.

1. Those dreadlocks look dirty

2. They are too thick

3. They are too long

There was a guy on American Idol who had something like dreadlocks. However I can't find his name. He is not in the top 24.

Anyway, the kind of locks I want look similar to braids.

Yes its a cartoon but the length I want is similar to that but touching the shoulder.

the ones you want actually are braids. i don't think there's any such thing as clean looking dreads. you could go to someone you know who has them, or someone who works at a rasta kind of place to tell you how to make them or to do them for you. your hair should be that long in about a year.

It should only take a couple of weeks. You need to make sure that you hair is long beofre you start cause when you start your dreads you hair will become shorter.. Theres a great shampoo and conditioner that makes your hail grow faster and healthier.. You have to get it from the pet section at walmart.. Its called mane and tail.. its wonderful

its takes different amounts of times for different people, it depends on the texture of your hair and thickness. But usually it takes people 7-8 months. =]

(also.. if you don't wash your hair for awhile it speeds up the process)
